Yesterday, the front page of the The NY Post featured an article about Senator Jeff Klein, who has been trying to push through ridiculous legislation on behalf of Empire Merchants LLC (one of the two, huge, dark, soul crushing, distributors in our market). This legistlation would harm us and every other small to mid-size wholesaler in New York, who store their wine in New Jersey.
In case you didn’t know: The proposed legislation would require wines to be stored in-state for 24 hours before being delivered to restaurants and wine shops in NY–something that would be economically unfeasible for most small to mid-size wholesalers, like us. As our fearless leader, David Bowler, so rightly put it in a Huffington post piece last year, about the same issue, “They just want to squash the competition, like any unfettered company with that kind of money. New York is the most unique wine market in the country, because we have smaller wholesalers who provide choices.”
So, help us put the “at rest” bill to rest once and for all! Here’s how you can take action:
